I am from many different places
waking up in different cities in the RV we lived in
I am from adventuring through life
since the day I started walking
I am from 7/11 slurpees after school,
to camping during the weekend

I’m from waking up to Dixie Chicks
and falling asleep to Hawaiian lullabies
I’m from spontaneous trips
from hikes to an overnight Disneyland trip

I'm part of the ocean I swim in
and the mountains I climb
I'm part of high expectations
while being an extroverted introvert


I am created from my memories
therefore I'm still growing

    My favorite line was about waking up to Dixie Chicks and falling asleep to Hawaiian lullabies. That contrast was really powerful.

"See You When I See You" I grew up surrounded by Hawaiian culture, considering my Dad's side is all Hawaiian. There should be a guide to Hawaiian Culture because there's so many things Hawaiians do that I still don't fully comprehend. One thing that stood out the most about my dad, besides the fact that he was a big Hawaiian guy, was that he would talk to everyone, even strangers and every single time he left he would tell them "I'll see you when I see you." That's why it was so appropriate to put that saying on his memorial card when he passed away.  I never understood why he would always say this to people, or what it even meant until I got older. Losing someone is always hard, but I wouldn't be the person I am today if my dad was still here, and on some level i'm grateful for that. I'm Probably (Mush)faking It

Gee talks about learning Discourses like learning a language, it has to be done through social interactions with people who have already mastered the discourse. He states in " Literacy, Discourse, and Linguistics " that "If you have no access to the social practice, you don't get in the Discourse, you don't have it" (Page 3.) It's ironic to me that Gee starts off by comparing learning Discourses to learning a language because for me, changing my language was the biggest Discourse for me. I guess I shouldn't so much say a language because it wasn't that extreme, but it was an accent and slang I grew up learning. Growing up in Hawaiian culture wasn't fun and games, but more of a commitment. We had to learn Hawaiian history, music, language, and more importantly how to speak "proper pidgin ." Being accustomed to this lifestyle made it hard in my adult years having conversations with people, let alone struggling in English classes. ...
